Today we have come up with a new idea which we feel will be simpler and easier. Instead of the male protagonist having a bomb planted in him to blackmail him, it is planted there as a scientific experiment. When this man wakes up, he meets a homeless man….or so he thinks. The “homeless man” is really a scientist disguised as a homeless man. The male protagonist tries to manipulate the homeless man into finding out what he wants, but the whole time the homeless man (scientist) is manipulating the man into what he wants him to do for the experiment.

In this storyline, the audience does not know that the homeless man is a scientist until later in the film. I think this could pose a problem. We only have two minutes to introduce all main characters and establish their backstories, as well at setting. I just think i could be difficult to introduce the scientist in the two minutes that we have. Lucie, Guste and i will discuss this next week.

We have brainstormed and Lucie has come up with a really good idea. This is how we are picturing it so far:

-Our main protagonist wakes up on a roof (or any other location could work, but we have stuck with roof for now.)
-Also, we haven't found a name for our character so for purposes of discussion until we figure out a name, 'X' is our new main character. We also wanted an easygoing looking type of character, which we found inspiration from from Ryan Reynolds)
-X starts hearing beeping noises, coming from around him. He's lightly bruised, as if he had taken part in a sort of hassle or fight. He looks down and finds a fresh scar on his body, which is where he then concludes that that is where the beeping is coming from.
-There is a homeless man sitting on the roof with him, the homeless man himself is quite quirky and funny and brings a lighthearted tone to the story, instead if it being all suspense and mystery.
-From then on, the homeless embarks on a journey with the beeping man to figure out why he is beeping, and speculates that he has a bomb inside of him.

-We wanted to use graphic matches and parallelism techniques to appeal to the eye during this opening so we had come up with the idea that certain objects, people, or colors may become triggering to X which make him flashback to a certain point in time of the night before to figure out what happens and/or figure what task he must fulfill.

As a group, we decided to stick with the Crime genre. Although we have decided to have a Crime genre for our two minute opening, we are not sure which other genre to merge it with; I am thinking we should merge our Crime genre with Adventure, since that appeals to every person on the group and we all have good ideas for the beginning to our two minute opening. I have researched characteristics of genres and found a great source (also attached below) that will aid our group in coming to a decision as to which genre to focus on.

For the beginning of the two minute opener Guste and Lucie had the idea of a 25 year old man by the name of Harry waking up on a roof early one morning. This man does not know who he is, where he is, or how he got there. When he wakes up he meets a homeless man, Jeff, who was also sleeping on the roof. Jeff says that Harry has done something terrible, and that he hold all the answers. So the story is about Harry discovering himself and what he has done with the help of his new homeless friend, Jeff. I like many parts of this idea, but I do not like that how Harry does not know who he is or where he is. I feel like that has been done too many times and would be cheesy if we did it. This idea would focus on a Crime/Adventure genre so I feel like we could work well with it.

Earlier today, my group met to discuss what genre we should focus on for the two minute film opening. As I stated in my last post, we have all agreed that we did not want to focus on either romance or horror, so today I suggested my idea of Crime. Both Guste and Lucie agreed that this would be a good idea since there are many options and paths we can go if we were to focus on the crime genre.

Since Lucie thought it would be a good idea to fuse two genres together to give the two minute opening more spice, I also mentioned my idea about the Crime/Sci-Fi genre and Crime/Adventure genre. Fortunate enough Guste wanted to focus on Adventure, but neither of them liked the Crime/Sci-Fi idea. Lucie liked the idea of focusing on Mystery. We have made progress. We now know what each other are thinking, we just have to come up with an answer by compromising with each other.
Hi, I’m Danny Cooke and this is my blog for the AICE Media Studies final project. Over the next 6 weeks I will be documenting the journey I, as well as my two partners, Lucie Pottecher and Guste Janusouskaite will be taking as we create our two minute film opening. All three of us are excited to work on this and to show you what we can create. To know a little bit about me I am 16 years old, I live in  Weston, Florida and attend Cypress Bay High School which is where I am currently take the AICE Media Studies course.

So, as of right now our group has yet to figure out what genre we want to focus on for our two minute film opening. As a group we have agreed that, for sure, we do not want to focus on either romance or horror. Personally, I like the idea of the crime genre. Lucie mentioned that she thinks it would be a good idea to merge two genres together so I was thinking maybe a Crime/Sci-Fi or Crime/Adventure drama. The group is meeting today so we will discuss our different ideas with each other.
